This DIYer turned her hobby into a business!
Q: How did you get into nails?
A: I have always been into arts and crafts and loved being creative. I never really went to the salon to get them done so I would often do my own nails. I stuck with doing plain manicures on myself just to have something on.
I recently moved from Canada to the United States and not being able to work due to immigration and then covid hitting, I started to really get into nails a lot more.
One day I decided to try and draw something on a nail and see how it would go. I never thought I could do it but here we are now.
My hobby slowly became my passion as I stumbled across the world of press on nails. I did a lot of research before starting my business and would give out free sets to family and friends to test them for me. I knew right away I absolutely loved creating art onto nails for people to enjoy. This was 10 months ago, in February it’ll be a year since I started Spicenailgrl. I am still learning something new every day, but I love what I do.
Q: What's your favorite Painted Desert product and why?
A: Short Squoval and the Xtra Short Almond gel tips are my favorite from Painted Desert! They are by far my most popular shapes with my customers. They are the most natural looking shapes and always look amazing on every single person! I go through these two shapes the most, they are definitely a MUST-HAVE for any nail artist/tech!
Q: What's your one tip for those new to nails?
Practice really does make perfect, although no one is perfect it really makes a difference. Don’t give up, you will really start to see improvements daily. Try something new and out of your comfort zone and you never know you could be AMAZING at it.
